Arthur L. Groff, 75, of Bowling Green, passed away July 6, 2023 surrounded by his love ones.
Arthur was born on December 17, 1947 in Massillon, Ohio to the late Arthur G. and Dorothy M. (Pearson) Groff. Arthur married Gail Adams on February 15, 1980 and she preceded him in 2003. Arthur is survived by his children: Ándrea (Mark) Chapman of Holland, Ohio, Nicholas Groff of New Castle, PA, Michelle (Richard) Groff of Tiffin, OH, Valerie (Dave) Baum of Bloomdale, OH; grandchildren: Charea, Alexis, Elizzebeth, Nicholas, Alivia, Brooklinn, Colton, Hayden, Tyler, Ethan and Austin; 6 great-grandchildren and siblings: Darlene Reed, Claudia Berresford, John Groff and Mary Hilliard.
Arthur was a graduate of Fairless High School and later obtained his degree in Music Education from Bowling Green State University. Arthur was a Band instructor at Elmwood, Fairless and Lucas School District before starting his career as a trucking owner and operator.
Arthur devoted much of his life to firefighting. Starting his career as a teenager on the Brewster Fire Department, then working for the Bowling Green Fire Department and later became the Fire Chief of the Jerry City Fire Department.
Arthur was a strong man of faith. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and enjoyed singing in the choir. Arthur was a talkative, friendly, caring and compassionate individual who would help anyone in a time of need.
A Graveside Service will be held in Arthur’s honor on July 21, 2023 at 10:00 AM in the Wood County Memory Gardens. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in his hometown of Brewster, Ohio at a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted with the Deck-Hanneman Funeral Home & Crematory, Bowling Green.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Arthur’s honor to Trinity United Methodist Church or to the National Fallen Firefighter Foundation.
