From WOOD COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY

This week, Wood County EMA is anticipating the highest temperatures so far this summer. This heat will begin as early as Monday, June 29, with the hottest days forecasted as Wednesday, July 1, and Thursday, July 2.

Daily high temperatures are forecasted to rise into the 90s. Heat index values are likely to reach or exceed 100°F or higher for multiple days, posing a risk to vulnerable populations.

Heat can be very taxing on the body and can lead to heat related illnesses or make existing health conditions worse.

Heat index

The heat index is a measure of how hot it really feels when relative humidity is factored in with the actual air temperature. To find the heat index temperature, people can use this heat index calculator.

Since heat index values were devised for shady, light wind conditions, exposure to full sunshine can increase heat index values by up to 15°F. Also, strong winds, particularly with very hot, dry air, can be extremely hazardous.

Everyone is encouraged to take a look at next week’s plans now and take into consideration the forecasted high temperatures.
