In an effort to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics Ohio, the Law Enforcement Torch Run will pass through Wood County on Monday, June 20, and will continue to the opening ceremonies of the 2016 Special Olympics Ohio State Summer Games on June 24. The run will begin at Hollywood Casino at 8:30 a.m., and will make some stops in Bowling Green:
– Thayer Ford – 11:20 a.m.
– Kroger Bowling Green – 11:45 a.m.
– Wood County Courthouse – 12:15 p.m.
To further the Special Olympics philosophy, law enforcement will carry the torch, representing the “flame of hope” and dedicate itself to the goals of continually increasing awareness and funds for Special Olympics athletes worldwide. Wood County Special Olympics athletes will participate with area law enforcement officers who have raised funds for each mile they run. Other law enforcement activities throughout the year have also raised money for the initiative.
Spectators are welcome and encouraged along the route. To learn more about Special Olympics or to become a volunteer, contact Wood Lane at 419-352-5115.
