Wood County climbs to ‘Red’ level as COVID numbers spike

Wood County is back in the red as COVID cases spike in the county.

As of today, Wood County was elevated to Level 3 (red) based on the flowing indicators:

  • New cases per capita of 385.3 per 100,000 residents.
  • Sustained increase in new cases (27.4 average cases on 10/22 to 39.7 by 11/4).
  • Proportion of cases not in a congregate setting.
  • Sustained increase in outpatient visits (18 average visits on 10/30 to 46.4 on 11/10).   

Gov. Mike DeWine continues to encourage staying home when sick, use of facial coverings, social distancing and hand washing. 

Due to the red level, public emergency indicates:

  • Very high exposure and spread. Limit activities as much as possible. Follow all current health orders.
  • Avoid contact with anyone who is considered high-risk.
  • High-risk individuals should take extra care to follow precautions.
  • Decrease in-person interactions outside the household. 
  • Seek medical care as needed, but limit or avoid unnecessary visits to hospitals, nursing homes, and residential care facilities to see others as much as possible. 

As of today, Wood County COVID cases hit 3,445 since March, with 169 added since Tuesday. Hospitalizations increased by seven for a total of 262. Active cases in the county hit 425, which is an increase of 84 since Tuesday.

One more Wood County resident has died from COVID, bringing the total to 105.
