Women Leading a Dialogue is a group consisting of Arab and Jewish women from Israel’s Western Galilee region. With the help of a professional facilitator, these women, ages 30-55, discuss mutual issues pertaining to their lives. They get to know each other, go on field trips, and celebrate special holidays together, like Ramadan, New Year’s and Passover.

While strengthening their bonds, they also enhance their leadership and project building skills.

Eighteen women in this program will be traveling to five communities across the United States to speakabout their experience and inspire others to create similar programs in their own communities. Toledo is fortunate to have been selected as the first stop on their American tour. They will be in town Nov. 6-9, 2022, speaking to various groups and exploring our region’s cultural attractions. They will be participating in a glassblowing workshop, touring downtown Toledo, visiting the Toledo Zoo, and more.

On Tuesday, November 8 at 7p.m., there will be a large, open-to-the-public, interfaith program taking place at Wildwood Metropark’s Ward Pavilion. Dinner will be provided. The Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) of the Jewish Federation of Greater Toledo requests RSVP no later than Friday, Oct. 28th by emailing sally@jewishtoledo.org.

The Jewish Federation of Greater Toledo is  supporting this program in Israel in the belief that in bringing people together to highlight their common ground and to celebrate their differences.

Women Leading a Dialogue

This program is a collaboration between the Young Adults Centers of Akko and the Matte Asher Regional Council, and Partnership2Gether in the Western Galilee. Partnership2Gether (P2G) is a program of the Jewish Agency and the Jewish Federations of North America, promoting people-to-people relationships through cultural, social, medical, educational, and economic programs. This Partnership is between the 17 communities of the Central Area Consortium (including Toledo); Budapest, Hungary; and Israel’s Western Galilee.

The Western Galilee is one of Israel’s most diverse regions. Located in the northwest of the country along the Mediterranean Sea and the Lebanon border, it includes the city of Akko and the Matte Asher Regional Council of villages and agricultural communities.

The program mission is to find common ground and to strengthen the bond between Arab and Jewish women from the Western Galilee in addition to involving and exposing partnered communities to the complexity and diversity of the region.

The program goals are to:

• Strengthen the bonds and encourage communication between various cultures and between the many groups in the Western Galilee;

• Break down barriers and stereotypes;

• Develop leadership skills among the participants;

• Empower women;

• Widen the circles to family members and beyond;

• Introduce a variety of cultures to others;

• Develop strong relationships between communities; and

• Trigger the creation of similar groups in the United States
