While Mariah Carey exclaimed from a loudspeaker that all she wants for Christmas is you, one BG Holiday Parade attendee had another request for Santa: 70-degree weather on Christmas.
Santa, his legs wrapped in a plaid blanket, may very well have shared those sentiments.
The weather Saturday morning was almost 50 degrees shy of that wished-for temperature and felt chillier as the wind gusted down Main Street.
Though the crowds were thinner and more bundled up than in most previous years, the Bowling Green Holiday Parade still kicked off the holiday season with plenty of sparkle, smiles and rousing Christmas songs. Some blasted from speakers to set the beat for crews of dancer, cheerleaders, and twirlers.
Other seasonal tunes were given rousing renditions by the seven bands in the line of march.
For some of those bands, overcoats were the dress of the day as were head bands for the twirlers, cheerleaders, and dancers.
The Wood County Museum’s antique fire engine didn’t make the show. It wouldn’t start.
And while Wood County Humane Society volunteers were there, Heath Diehl, president of the board, said they decided it was best given the weather to keep the pooches indoors. He instead dressed the part.
After Santa had made his way down Main Street, a mother was heard telling her son: “I’m not leaving the house until it’s 50.”
Sarah Aaron from Fortville, Indiana came to the parade to see her granddaughter in the Bowling Green High School Marching band. She was impressed by the size of the parade
And seeing her granddaughter smile when she spotted her grandmother in the crowd made it all worth it. “Beautiful!”
