Nov. 21-24 – The Department of Theatre and Film present “Mr. Burns: a post-electric play” by Anne Washburn, who won the 2015 Whiting Award for Drama. A paean to live theater and the resilience of Bart Simpson through the ages, “Mr. Burns” is an animated exploration of how the pop culture of one era might evolve into the mythology of another. After the collapse of civilization, a group of survivors share a campfire and begin to piece together the plot of “The Simpsons” episode “Cape Feare” entirely from memory. Seven years later, this and other snippets of popular culture (sitcom plots, commercials, jingles and pop songs) have become the live entertainment of a post-apocalyptic society, sincerely trying to hold onto its past. Then, 75 years later, these are the myths and legends from which new forms of performance are created. Performances are at 8 p.m. on Nov. 21, 22 and 23, and at 2 p.m. on Nov. 23 and 24 in the Thomas B. and Kathleen M. Donnell Theatre at the Wolfe Center for the Arts. Advance tickets are $5 for students, $10 for seniors and $15 for other adults. Tickets purchased on the day of the performance are $10 for students and $20 for everyone else. Nov. 26 – The College of Musical Arts welcomes guest trombonist and BGSU alumnus Li Kuang, who will present a master class. Kuang, an assistant professor of music at Murray State University, is an award-winning trombonist and an Edwards performing artist who has competed successfully in several competitions including winning the “Top Emerging Artists” in Asia, the International Trombone Association Frank Smith Competition and Bowling Green State University’s Concerto competition. He received a bachelor of music degree from BGSU, a master of music degree from University of Michigan and a doctorate of musical arts at the University of Texas at Austin. The concert will begin at 3 p.m. in the Choral Rehearsal Room at Moore Musical Arts Center. Free
