Cora Shawaker

Cora H. Shawaker, 91, of Bowling Green, passed away peacefully on May 29th at Bridge Hospice in Bowling Green. She was born on August 10, 1925 in Mantua, Ohio to Edward and Eva (Simpson) Newhouse. She was a “tiny” 3lb surprise being the second born fraternal twin. Her twin sister, Betty Avery survives in Marietta, GA.

Cora graduated from Mantau Township in 1944 where she was active in girl’s chorus and also band playing the clarinet. Later she met and married Karl D. Shawaker of Portage, Ohio in Mantau, Ohio on September 1, 1946. Karl and Cora successfully farmed in both Portage Township and rural Bloomdale.

Cora and Karl raised three daughters, Linda (John) Ferrera, Bowling Green, Connie (John) Sullivan, Cedar MI. and Karla (Dan) Ginter, deceased.  Karl also preceded Cora in death on November 15, 2011. Three granddaughters survive Lisa Rothfleisch, Bowling Green, Katie Ginter, Stryker and Megan (Jason) Rahn, Toledo with great-granddaughter Karla Gail Rahn.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday June 3, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Dunn Funeral Home, located in the Historical District of Bowling Green at 408 West Wooster Street. Rev. Dale Smeltzer will officiate. Interment will follow at Portage Township Cemetery. Friends will be received on Friday June 2, 2017 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be given in her memory to the Wood County Senior Center.
