Bowling Green State University is reporting a significant increase in the number of COVD cases among students.

The number of students infected increased almost fivefold in the week of Sept. 1-7, up from 215 cases from 44 last week.

The university had only two cases involving staff members. Last week it reported two cases among the faculty and three among the staff

Chief Health and Wellness Officer Ben Batey urged people to stay home at the first sign of symptoms, and get testing. Free testing is widely available on campus. They should also report to the university if they test positive either through email at health@bgsu.edu or by calling  the COVID-19 Response Team at 419-372-3000.

Batey told Faculty Senate Tuesday that most of the cases being seen in the community are the result of people gathering in large groups. Breakthrough cases in people already vaccinated or repeat cases among those who have already had COVID-19 are also occurring.
