‘Creative Coping’ at Toledo Museum explores the intersection of art & health

From TOLEDO MUSEUM OF ART

Would you like to experience creative mindfulness activities led by both art and medical professionals? Bring your friends and family to IMpact and INspire (I’m In) and Circle’s next event, Creative Coping, at the Toledo Museum of Art’s (TMA) GlasSalon, Thursday, July 18 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Participants will engage with staff from the TMA Family Center and ProMedica professionals who use therapeutic art techniques, as they participate in several activities meant to spark meaningful dialogue in a lighthearted atmosphere.

Both adults and children are invited to learn about therapeutic services offered through ProMedica Toledo Children’s Hospital’s Cullen Center and participate in hands-on activities that encourage emotional intelligence and open collaboration at any age.

“Circle’s focus is presenting inclusive activities at the intersection of art and health,” explained TMA Leadership Fellow Alyssa Greenberg. “This event is really designed for parents and children to participate in the activities together as a way to learn how art can help with healing.”

Among the activities is a self-portrait station involving mirrors and mixed media. Other events include drawing and meditation activities geared for all ages.

“The vison of the Cullen Center is to help children, adolescents, and families who have experienced a traumatic event to heal and reclaim their lives,” said Dr. Adrienne Elhai, director and clinical child psychologist. “We are excited about the opportunity this event provides to share the value of art in healing with families in a non-clinical setting.”

In lieu of an admission fee, attendees are invited to purchase one of the items on the Cullen Center wish list registry at bit.ly/CircleJuly18

In addition to the activities, free refreshments will be provided and include rosemary chicken sliders, macaroni and cheese croquettes, watermelon wedges, and chocolate dipped key lime pies.
