“Nuestros Niños El Futuro (Our Children The Future),” an exhibit of artwork created by children participating in a La Conexion after school program, will open Monday, Jan. 8 in the Willard Wankelman gallery at the BGSU School of Art.

Jeffrey Eden, who graduated with a Master of Fine Arts and a master’s in art history from BGSU, curated the exhibit to benefit La Conexion.

Eden have been volunteering with La Conexion for almost two years  as a tutor for children ages 2 to about 10). In addition to facilitating creative play, bilingual education and socializing, and homework help, he has  used his skills as a professional artist and art historian to also provide painting workshops for the children.

As a culmination of these endeavors, “Nuestros Niños El Futuro (Our Children The Future)” celebrates the artistic impulses of the students. The show features several paintings on canvas done by the students of La Conexion, as well as a number of their preparatory drawings and doodles as a means to encourage a conversation on the art made by children by seeing a chronology from toddlerhood to the teenage years.

The show is also a means to fundraise for La Conexion by putting the works for sale and encouraging donation via a QR code on the gallery postcards.
