Fundraisers planned to raise money for pickleball courts in BG

Paula and Dick Hermes, of Bowling Green, play pickleball in Perrysburg.

The Bowling Green Parks and Recreation Department, the Parks and Rec Foundation, and the Great Black Swamp Pickleball Club have announced a fundraiser to support the development for the Bowling Green pickleball courts.

The organizers are calling on community members and local businesses to donate any increment to help with the final leg of fundraising for six new outdoor pickleball courts to be located next to the BG Training and Community Center.

Those interested in supporting these courts can purchase a paddle sign ($1,000) or pickleball sign ($500) listing on a donor nameplate ($250-$499), all of which will be displayed at the new courts. Pickle Pal donations ($250 and below) will be listed in the program at the ribbon cutting. Naming opportunities for businesses or families are still available, ranging from $1,500-$200,000.

Several local businesses have already supported the project with donations: AA Green, Hartung Brothers, Thayer and Union Bank.

The Great Black Swamp Pickleball Club is also inviting the community to “Pints for Pickleballs” a fundraising event at Arlyn’s on Saturday, Sept. 16, where $1 of every pint purchased from 1 -11 p.m. will be donated to this project.

The estimated cost for the project is between $300,000 – $400,000. City Council has designated $150,000 from ARPA funds and with the help of the BGPR Foundation, the Great Black Swamp Pickleball Club has raised almost an additional $70,000. Several grant proposals have been submitted or are in process.

Those interested in donating can email kotley@bgohio.org to receive the forms and any additional information. For questions or more information, call 419-354-6223.
