Journalist and filmmaker Gwynne Dyer will speak on “Coping with Climate Change: Planetary Management Engineers,” Monday, Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m. Bowen Thompson Student Union Theater, Room 206, on the BGSU campus.
His free, public talk is part of the Edward Lamb Peace Lecture series.
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres says our planet is on the “highway to climate hell with our foot still on the accelerator.” In the decades of the mid-21st century, we will face major losses of life and wealth due to the greenhouse gasses already in our atmosphere.
But things are not that grim. Dyer will explain how politics, technology, and some luck may allow us to escape the worst and recover sooner than we think.
Dyer is a London-based freelance journalist, columnist, author, broadcaster, filmmaker and lecturer on international affairs. His lecture is based on interviews with more than 50 climate scientists and research that will be published in his forthcoming book, “Intervention Earth” (spring 2023).
For decades, the Lamb Family Foundation has supported speakers at BGSU on issues related to the environment and peace.
Dyer’s talk marks the return of the lecture series after a hiatus during the pandemic.
It is presented by BGSU Department of Political Science, School of Earth, Environment and Society, Peace and Conflict Studies program, and the International Relations Organization.
