Local arts events benefit from funding from Ohio Arts Council

Wood County arts organizations  have received  $31,254 as part of $14.7 million in grants awarded by the Ohio Arts Council.

Arts entities at Bowling Green State Universitywere the largest recipients and the Black Swamp Arts Festival also received a major grant. Projects in Pemberville, Perrysburg, and Rossford received funds as well.

Grant recipients are:

  • BGSU Fine Arts Center Galleries, $10,841. Support a year of visual arts exhibitions and outreach activities, including an annual, juried community arts exhibition; a juried art exhibition for regional high school students; curated art exhibitions of national and international artists; artist lectures and public symposiums; art workshops for families and children; and student and faculty exhibitions.
  • Mid-American Review/BGSU, $1,295. Support the Winter Wheat festival, including readings by published writers, writing workshops, an open mic event, and targeted outreach activities.
  • ArtsX/BGSU, $1,366. Support a multidisciplinary arts event, open to the public on the campus of BGSU with activities including a performance and visual art exhibitions at multiple indoor and outdoor locations by faculty and student artists, interactive arts activities, workshops and demonstrations by guest artists, and outreach to local schools.
  • Black Swamp Arts Festival, Inc., $7,855. Present the 27th annual Black Swamp Arts Festival, including music performances, a juried visual arts show, youth mural activities, artist demonstrations and workshops, and an a cappella competition for high school youths.
  • Pemberville-Freedom Area Historical Society received two grants. One, $2,801 to present a season of performing arts events and arts and craft shows, including a main stage concert series, holiday concert events, and community visual art shows, and the second, a $833 Ohio Artists on Tour grant exclusively for artists’ fees.
  • EVAC Project, Inc., Perrysburg, $3,673. Support a program promoting understanding between civilians and war veterans utilizing visual arts interpretations from multiple artists of veterans’ stories.
  • Rossford Convention and Visitors Bureau, Inc.$2,590. Support Stroll the Street Wednesdays, a summer through fall community-based visual and performing arts program highlighting the history and culture of Rossford.
