Novel Night fattens up public library’s book budget

Novel Night 2022

The Wood County District Public Library was back with an in-person Novel Night, picking up where it left off after two virtual No-Show Novel Nights.

The event held last week drew 105 attendees, who paid $100 each for tickets, and then went further by bidding on items in a live and silent auction.

When the dust had settled, the library had raised more than $100,000 for its books budget.

Both the money raised and attendees were in line with previous events.

“All of these funds will be added on top of the usual budget for the purchase of books in 2023,” the library reported on social media.”

The message expressed support to event sponsors, ticket buyers, in-kind item donors, and bidders for the live and silent auctions. “We are so grateful for your support; thank you!”

That money will buy books in all their forms from traditional physical books to licensing for multiple copies of virtual books. All in an effort to get patrons what they want in a timely manner.

Since the fundraiser was established in 2009, it has raised more than $1.3 million for the library.
