Learn about thermal wastewater recovery with Lynn Mueller, inventor and CEO of Sharc Energy Systems, and Saul Kinter, Business Development Program Manager at DC Water, which provides drinking water, sewage collection and sewage treatment for Washington, D.C. and its metropolitan region.

New technologies are enabling wastewater to be a major, cost-effective source of renewal energy. Today, wastewater energy extraction is being used in Europe, Canada, and a few places in the United States to reduce heating and cooling operating costs by up to 80 percent and reduce carbon emissions by an equal amount.

In 2021, the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) released its evaluation of a Sharc Wastewater Recovery System. A Sharc System provides the new 151,300 sq ft DC Water headquarters building with the source energy for a combination of heating, air conditioning and water heating.
