Timothy Joe Young, 76, of St. Petersburg, FL, formerly of North Baltimore, OH, passed on the morning of Sunday, Oct. 25, 2026, at Birchaven Hospice.
Tim, born on May 10, 1950, in Bluffton, to the late Clyde & Marian (Kress) Young, grew up in Leipsic and graduated from Leipsic High School in the class of 1968. On Nov. 2, 1991, he married the love of his life, Susan Bateson. They shared 45 years of joy together. Susan survives in St. Petersburg.
Also surviving are his children, Desiree Thompson, Patrick (Holly) Ryan, and Christina (Jason) Frankforther; grandchildren, Martina, Marcus, Dylan, Patrick, Makayla, Elliana, Edward and Zara; great-grandchildren, Yasmine, Lilliyona, Marzi and Cooper; and sister, Suze Cox. Tim was preceded in death by his son, Timothy Young II; sister, Judith Johnson; and brothers, Thomas and Jonathan Young.
Tim was lucky to find work he loved. He worked for CSX as a track inspector, and held various other positions, until his retirement after 37 dedicated years. Tim kept in contact with his railroad gang, and his childhood friends, Ken & Greg Stefan. He was passionate about all things trains, but also enjoyed golfing, rooting for OSU, cooking, and traveling to visit family. He adored his grandchildren, and loved riding the golfcart around with them and Sue. Sue & Tim enjoyed spending summers in Ohio living with their daughter, while their other daughter spent the weekends. The rest of the year they spent visiting their sons farm and several family members.
He was a voracious reader and remembered everything he read. Known as the “Grand Wizard” by his children’s friends, he was the ultimate trivia king. Tim often joined his daughter’s trivia team on Monday’s at Ralphie’s, where he showed off his knowledge. Tim frequently argued with the presenters on Fox News. He was also a wonderful craftsman, a gift he enjoyed sharing with his son-in-law Jason. Tim was handy and could build, fix, or create anything.
Tim was passionate about music and enjoyed a range of genres from opera to rock & roll. He often serenaded Sue with his Sinatra-esque voice, but the couple loved combining their voices to sing beautiful songs together. Tim’s family fondly remembers the fun they had at Party in the Park in Toledo and the wonderful family vacations they took together. Not only was he fun, but Tim was also supportive. Once given a silicone wristband to show support while his daughter fought breast cancer, he never took it off, even after she had recovered.
To Tim, family was the most important thing in the world, and the love he had for them knew no bounds. Tim’s love, passion, joy, and endless support will be deeply missed by those who hold him in their hearts.
A celebration of life will be held in May of 2027. Memorials may be made in Tim’s name to Cancer Patient Services of Hancock County.
Arrangements are in care of Coldren-Crates Funeral Home Findlay, and condolences may be shared at coldrencrates.com.
