BGSU gallery season opens with exhibits featuring art by retired faculty & the enamel work of Bill Hedwig

The BGSU School of Art will begin its 2023-2024 exhibition season with the opening of two exhibits in the BGSU Fine Art Gallery on Aug. 24 from 6-8 p.m. 

In the Uber Bryan Gallery “Life’s Work: Emirati Exhibition,” a group exhibition honoring eight of BGSU’s distinguished retired faculty, will open. 

These artists, having dedicated years to teaching, have also pursued their personal artistic vision throughout. Within retirement years, artists have had the opportunity to magnify their artistic pursuits, showcasing their accumulated passion and achievements after decades of creative excellent and education.

Artists featured are: Todd Childers, Ron Jacomini, Karen Kakas, Lou Krueger, Gordon Ricketts, Beth Sheets, Lynn Whitney, and Dennis Wojtkiewicz

In the Wankelman Gallery “Bill Hedwig: A Life in Enamel”, a retrospective curated by BGSU student Matthew Bowlus that unravels the exceptional journey of the revered enamel artist, Bill Hedwig. 

With a prolific five-decade career, Hedwig’s works are a testament to his unparalleled ability to marry color, texture, and form. 

This exhibition spotlights meticulously crafted pieces, from his nascent experimental forms to his mature, signature style. Beyond the enameling brilliance, each piece underscores Hedwig’s knack for embedding narratives, emotions, and a unique perspective on life and the natural realm.
