Next year much of northwestern Ohio will be in the direct path of a once-in-a-lifetime total solar eclipse. Ahead of the momentous event, the region will experience a partial solar eclipse on Saturday, Oct. 14, and Bowling Green State University is holding free community activities, including a viewing session.
The celebration of the partial solar eclipse will begin at 11 a.m. on Oct. 14 with a presentation in the BGSU Planetarium by Dr. Kate Dellenbusch, teaching professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. Dellenbusch is leading multiple community outreach and education events around eclipses, most recently at the Ohio State Fair.
At noon, BGSU is set to hold a public viewing session for the partial eclipse outside the planetarium featuring telescopes and free filter glasses for safe observation of the event. A livestream of the eclipse from multiple locations, including a track of the eclipse path, will be available inside the BGSU Planetarium until 2:30 p.m. Outdoor activities are weather permitting.
BGSU is planning additional educational programming and outreach during the months leading up to next year’s total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024.
