Local library initiates live chat reference service

From WOOD COUNTY DISTRICT PUBLIC LIBRARY

Wood County District Public Library is still answering your questions during the pandemic, but has introduced a new service. “We want our patrons to know that while our buildings may be closed, we are still here to help them get the information they need,” says Kristin Wetzel, Information Services Coordinator

Patrons have always been able to email questions to library staff at woodref@wcdpl.org, but they may now also chat live with staff right through the library’s website. To access this service, visit the library’s website at wcdpl.org, and look for the blue and white “chat with us” box in the lower right corner of the screen.

Patrons can simply click on the box and wait for staff to come on and chat with them about their questions. Wetzel added that “the library wanted to provide our patrons with a virtual experience that was similar to being able to walk up to our desk when we are open.”

The library is available to answer online chat questions on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 2-6 p.m. and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  When there is not a library employee staffing the chat, patrons can still use the same box to submit questions via email, or they may email directly at woodref@wcdpl.org. Emails are answered Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
