Bettie Anderson

Bettie Jane Anderson was born November 19, 1922 and passed away peacefully on December 30, 2016 at the Provincial House in Adrian, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ruth Yeack; brother: Robert (Dorothy) Yeack; sisters: Lois (Jim) Phillips, Virginia Graybark, Ruth (Jerry) Gedert; and her son John.

Bettie graduated from Libbey High School in 1940 after which she attended Stautzenberger College. Later in life she audited a variety of classes at Jackson Community College.

Bettie had many hobbies; she was an avid reader, and a published writer. She also was an excellent artist and excelled at creating art in a variety of mediums; winning numerous Blue Ribbons at the Lucas County Fair.

Bettie loved world travel. She was adventurous, taking her children by camper to California and then to Alaska where her husband, Walter H. Anderson, joined her in Fairbanks. She also took her children to Europe via ship, landing in Liverpool England, picking up a VW Bus in London, and for three months traveled throughout Europe. She also traveled to Japan, China (shortly after President Nixon opened trade with China), Thailand, India, and Egypt. Her favorite destination was Vineyard Lake outside of Brooklyn, Michigan where she spent her summers. In her later years, she resided there permanently.

She was a member of the Maumee Valley Historical Society. She owned the Pythian Castle and the Oliver House in Toledo as well as Successful Sales Co. She belonged to the Daughters of the Nile and traveled all over the United States and Canada while performing her duties and raising money for the Shriner’s Hospital.

She is survived by her daughter Barbara (Don) Atkinson and her son Gregg (Joan) Anderson. Her Grandchildren include Lt. Col. David (Pam) Atkinson, Jennifer (Ryan) Atkinson-Minni, Erin (Anthony) Tytko, and Bradley Anderson; great grandchildren: Zac Atkinson, Emily Atkinson, Owen Atkinson, Austin Minni, and Allisyn Atkinson; sister: Judy (Olen) Fairchild; and brother-in-law Arnie Graybark.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and had a contagious smile and laugh as well as the gift of creating friendships.

Visitation for Bettie will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2017 from 2:00 PM until the time of her Celebration of Life Service at 4:00 PM in the Deck-Hanneman Funeral Home & Crematory, 1460 W. Wooster St., P.O. Box 648, Bowling Green, Ohio 43402, tele: 419-352-2171.
