I read with interest the report that the Wood County Landfill’s projected lifespan is shrinking. But I have more questions: why is the landfill filling up faster than expected? What accounts for the 10,000 tons more trash from 2014 to 2015? Efforts are underway in cities across the country to reduce waste through better recycling programs, composting, and educating citizens on how to reduce consumption of disposable materials. Wood County has a lot of land, but do we really want to tie up more of it with landfills?
