League offers advice on voting & preserving democracy

"19th Amendment" by Shelley Brenner Baird. The mixed media artwork celebrating women's suffrage uses political yard signs to write out the text of the amendment that gave women the right to vote. It was on display in 2019 in the Ohio Biennium in the Riffe Center Gallery in Columbus.

The 2024 Election year is beginning. Ohio’s Primary Election this year will be held on March 19.

Check with the Board of Elections (BOE) to review your polling location and to make sure that your registration information is up to date. If you have moved since the last election, or if your name has changed, update your information with the BOE. Any changes must be received by that office by Tuesday February 20.

Early in-person voting begins on Wednesday February 21 at the Wood County Courthouse. As on Election Day, bring a current photo ID (your driver’s license or state identification card) with you.

Applications for an Absentee Ballot are available on the Board of Elections webpage. Absentee Ballots must be postmarked before the day of the election, Tuesday March 19, and must be received by the BOE office by Saturday March 23.

The Board of Elections has an excellent website (https://www.co.wood.oh.us/BOE/ ), which you may review at any time. Their telephone number is (419) 354-9120, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Finally, for information on where to find your polling place and what is on the ballot, check out the website vote411.org
