Wood County Museum to host talk about Nazareth Hall

From WOOD COUNTY MUSEUM

The Wood County Museum is pleased to host Tom Sorosiak, a local historian, for a talk about the history of Nazareth Hall on Tuesday, July 7, at 6 p.m., at the Wood County Museum. Admission will be $7 per person, or free for museum members. The price includes the talk with light refreshments and a self-guided tour of the museum’s exhibits. This talk is part of the Wood County Museum’s America250 lecture series.

The talk will explore the story of the iconic European-inspired landmark along the Maumee River, just outside of Grand Rapids, and the educational vision of the Ursuline sisters that brought it to life. Spanning 1928-1982, Sorosiak has a book that explores the founding mission, architectural significance, cadet traditions, and the broader cultural forces that shaped Nazareth Hall’s legacy. Sorosiak will have books available for sale at the talk, and 100% of the book sales will be donated to the Northwest Ohio Polish Cultural Center in Toledo.

Sorosiak grew up in Ohio and Michigan, earning his bachelor’s degree from the University of Toledo. He taught in the Toledo Public Schools from 1969 – 2004. After earning his M.A. in History from Eastern Michigan University in 1991, he taught at Bowling Green State University, concentrating on the fields of genocide and Holocaust studies. He also pursued a Ph.D. in American Cultural Studies at BGSU.
